By night and the National Theatre reverberates to ecstatic applause as, outside, couples walk hand in dreamy hand along the moonlit river. There are two bedrooms, a sunny twin, and the master double, where you can go to sleep gazing upon a wall of images from your hosts’ travels all around the world. Be it a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall or an hour watching the skateboarders rehearse their tricks, you’re surrounded by things to do both day and night. Walk down to Westminster and Big Ben, or follow the river the other way to Tate Modern and Borough Market. Cross Waterloo Bridge (pausing to enjoy one of the world’s finest views) to reach Covent Garden and the West End, or, take the tube. The journey from Waterloo to Oxford Circus lasts seven minutes.
