Positive: The location was incredible. Aix-en-Provence is a lovely city of a manageable size. Walking around we always stumbled upon something new. There are museums and of course a lot of sites related to native son - Paul Cézanne. He spent most of his career painting in the area. The location within Aix was increadible. There was a boulangerie was just steps away as was a butcher. There were two large supermarkets within 5-minute walk. It was a 10-minute walk to both outdoor marchés (daily and 3-time a week with local produce, cheese, fish, meats and prepared foods) and the weekly clothing and flower markets. The fact that one was so close to the old town was wonderful. Besides the marchés there were many great restaurants, shops, museums and sites all within a short walk. With all the benefits of being so close to old town there was also a private parking space. Possibly there are rentals in the old town with parking but driving there would be hell. Thus, we were on the edge of old town and it was quite easy to get in the car and drive visit the rest of Provence and the Côte d'Azur. Make sure one has a small car, most are but one that is too wide or long would be difficult to fit in the parking space. Nevertheless parking was a bit challenging navigating the ally, but not bad. Our car rental company was only a block away and it is a short walk to the bus to the TGV. I have a Nespresso machine at home so having one here was quite easy and helpful. We were met by a representative who gave us keys, and explained how to use the parking place and the use of the keys for the apartment. Thus, check in was quite easy.

Negative: The apartment was a bit cluttered for its size. I understand small European apartments but some times less is more. There were way too many dishes (service for 20-30?) and none could be used in the microwave because of metal decorations. The cooktop was extremely difficult to control. It was sort of on high or off and difficult to get a temperature in between. I bought a knife because the supplied knife was so dull it would not cut the skin of an onion. And no bread knife! I know one usually tears a baguette but to make a sandwich.... The bar height counter and stools were a bit wobbly. And a coat rack or hooks near the door would have been helpful. I saw reviews complaining about the height of the shower head. It was a bit low, I'm 6'2" and yes if not careful it would hit me in my eye. The handle spray head was also too low but obviously could be detached to rinse shampoo. Likewise the mirror was very low. I get there were constraints of the height available in the space. A bit more light would have been helpful in the bedroom. It would have been helpful to have a booklet that gave instructions for the appliances, where to take trash and recommended restaurants and stores. Many places we've stayed have had these.
