Summary: The property is compact but so well organised and equipped that it is extremely comfortable. The view of the lake is lovely. We walked locally including along the Rhine but also toured to a number of destinations such as the Neckar valley, Bad Homburg, Rothenburg ob der Tauber and, of course, Speyer itself - a short drive away and not to be missed. We ate in Speyer but also at two local restaurants: Zum Alten Fritz and das Bootshaus, this latter only five minutes walk away. We ate there twice. Re the lake we understood from the owner that it is 4metres deep at edge going down to 25 metres in centre. For all its charm probably best left to strong and confident swimmers. Re the owner, Helmut Schaefer, he gave us a thorough briefing on arrival including a useful summary booklet in German and English. Helmut speaks very good English himself. He lives a few minutes walk away in the same street and, although we didn’t need to disturb him, it was reassuring to know the owner was nearby. We strongly recommend the cottage for a couple looking to relax and/ or use the excellent Autobahn connections to see the many sights of a charming area.
